moki’s goodies

moki’s goodies is a cute little café on Eppendorfer Weg in Eimsbüttel. It has always sparked my eye: the outside tables arranged casually on the neighborhood street, different seating rooms inside and friendly customers enjoying the place.

Everything is homemade, the service is always kind and professional, and last but not least the little details make a difference. For example the miniature Leibniz cookie that you get aside a hot drink. Mine usually is their signature Limoki, a fresh orange, ginger and mint infusion. Recently they added “only the good stuff”, Prana Chai, to the menu. I often judge cafés by their chai. If they choose Prana Chai, then they’re right up top on my ranking.

Only recently did I get to know their menu better – which turns out to have some great options for breakfast or lunch. I discovered maybe the prettiest avocado toast in town, on their gluten-free bread, simple but perfected porridge as well as fresh and healthy lunches.

Avocado Toasts on Gluten-Free Bread

First let me come to the Avocado Toasts.  This is an item that I love to choose and compare in cafés. Yes, they are a trending item, and I don’t want to advocate “an avocado a day” if you live in northern Europe. But I still love this classic. At moki’s goodies you can choose it with a side of lox, scrambled eggs or bacon – either on fluffy artisan farmers bread or their homemade, seedy bread without gluten. The fluffy version is great, but their seedy, dense slices are truly unique, thus always my pick!

Porridge: Simple but Superb

I make porridge a lot at home, which is why I usually skim right over it on a cafés’ menus. Just a proof, when I was at Bräi’s Pop Up last fall, I thought it was the first place to serve decent porridge in Hamburg. Well, I was wrong, because moki’s goodies makes delicious porridge as well. It is simple, cooked creamy with oat milk and coconut oil, and topped with caramelized banana, pomegranate, walnuts and star fruit. This breakfast was warming, and not too hot to burn my tongue. It was pleasantly sweetened and had a wonderful silky-smooth consistency. I definitely recommend it!

Healthy Lunches

Thirdly, moki’s goodies is a super pick if you’re on the look for a healthy and fresh lunch in Eimsbüttel. They serve some hipster classics, like Shakshuka and Buddha Bowls, but without any pretension and again an optional side of their superb gluten-free bread.

All in all . . .

moki’s goodies is exactly one of those personal cafés that shape a neighborhood to what it is. Here: Hoheluft & Eimsbüttel. You will be amongst regulars, and tourists, especially chit-chatting friends. Still everyone alike will be served with very accommodating, friendly service and can enjoy homemade food in a calm atmosphere.
