Supernova is the newest concept store and café in Val Thorens. The owner, Amélie Simond, was a professional freeride skier from town. With Supernova, she has complimented the dominant Savoyard cuisine with organic, vegetarian and refreshing dining alternatives.

Montpellier is a student town: small and medieval, but quite international. Probably these six universities are to thank for the abundant selection of lavish avocado toasts, vegan buddha bowls, and bourbon-butter mapled bacon pancakes. These are my top tips for where to drink coffee, work and eat in Montpellier!

Toulouse surprised me with its organic and local eateries, as well as the beautiful Garonne river banks and the unique differing specialty coffee shops. Read about my first experience here and discover where to find an açai bowl, French farmers beer, a late afternoon lunch, local ceramics, and little, organic bulk stores!

Each and every of Bordeaux’s specialty coffee shops deserves its own article . . . However a post for each would be too much, so this one literal post combines the whole guide in one. Read about Bordelaise roasteries, where I had my favorite breakfasts and matcha lattes, the best spots to laptop-work, what coffee shop fine-dining looks like and much more …

The specialty coffee shops in Bordeaux are what made me fall in love with the town. They are personal and keep the french culture, whilst staying a modern third wave coffee shop. Plus they can make some really good matcha, beetroot and pumpkin spice latte 😉

My first experience wwoofing in France, gave me a great insight into this culture. On Ferme d’Olivet I milked goats by hand, prepared traditional multi-course lunches, got insight into a vineyard, participated in folk festivals and visited neighbouring towns by biking through the beautiful country side.

Staying at the Vegan Surf Camp for three and a half weeks was a perfect time-out of normal life: yoga every morning, porridge with miso-tahini, surfing or siesta-ing at the beach, daily changing dinner buffets, movie nights a trip to San Sebastian …

Bordeaux is the French town of wine… but I was more interested in the avo-toasts, matcha and coconut lattes, vegan gluten-free fudgy chocolate cookies and organic ice cream parlors across from cathedrals and churches on plazas, merged by narrow stoned alleyways and beautiful copper lamps . . . and I’m keeping myself short.  Plus wild beaches, spectacular sanddunes and the coasts of oyster farmings are just an hours train ride away.

Alpen Art is restaurant by night, tea salon in the afternoon and artistic lounge simultaneously. Aurélie Rey, the daughter of the resorts first mountain guide, opened this fusion that serves high quality, food with traditional roots and creative but fine twists. It’s definitely worth a visit, for an authentic but modern pause in Val Thorens!

Paris was an interesting struggle:  one the one hand, plentiful avo-toast cafés* with pricey banana bread and flat whites.…

This year we tested a French ski resort after many years of Swiss skiing (Saas-Fee in the Valais and Zuoz, a five-lift idyll in the Engadin), which never disappointed.  Our standards were high and didn’t get fulfilled immediately – but by the end we were enthusiastic about almost every part of this ski area and hope to be back next year again!
