September 19, 2017 / 4 Months abroad in France

Staying at the Vegan Surf Camp for three and a half weeks was a perfect time-out of normal life: yoga every morning, porridge with miso-tahini, surfing or siesta-ing at the beach, daily changing dinner buffets, movie nights a trip to San Sebastian …

June 17, 2017 / Bordeaux & West Coast

Bordeaux is the French town of wine… but I was more interested in the avo-toasts, matcha and coconut lattes, vegan gluten-free fudgy chocolate cookies and organic ice cream parlors across from cathedrals and churches on plazas, merged by narrow stoned alleyways and beautiful copper lamps . . . and I’m keeping myself short.  Plus wild beaches, spectacular sanddunes and the coasts of oyster farmings are just an hours train ride away.

February 18, 2017 / Ookie Dough and I

I finally finalized my idea to write down all my blogging goals for this year.  Eleven months is still enough of a year . . . not all New Years resolutions have to be printed on January 1st.

Paris was an interesting struggle:  one the one hand, plentiful avo-toast cafés* with pricey banana bread and flat whites.…

• Eimsbüttel • Knödel • Alpine Flair • Casual •

Sometimes I write an entry after my first outing in a new café – I guess, there’s no second try needed to convince me – or maybe just because I can’t afford to sample each dish in every café between school, sport, piano… 🙃  However, in other places I do wait a whole year desperate to be enlightened with each individual of their recipes.  Even if I love everything from the first day.

That’s Alpenkantine.

• Ottensen • Poached Eggs • Avocado • Pancakes •

I have the impression that the new standard for breakfast places is avocado toast with poached eggs, at least in Germany that’s the new discovery. It seems to somehow qualify an eatery to some higher level. Or maybe it just makes me think that they have some higher concept? Something “better” than just nicely assorted fruit, three different kinds of German rolls and samples of jam and cheese. However nice it’s made up to be, that is just not my cup of tea.

A Hipster Breakfast in Hamburg

In Berlin avocado toast and real good pancakes aren’t a new thing. But in Hamburg the only avocado and poached egg combo I’ve had so far was in my kitchen. Then, I came upon RAIN Cafeatery in the heart of Ottensen.

Eimsbüttel : ITALIAN ♦ Sternschanze: HIPSTER ♦
Ottensen: INNOVATIVE-INDUSTRIAL ♦

This hanseatic town has delicious and different types of pizza to offer.  Lots of classical Italian, but also innovative, creative and the build-your-own kind.  Below are my three favorite pizzerias to go to – they all differ quite a lot from each other.  It really depends on where you are, who you’re going with, and what you feel like eating to decide which one you opt for.
