Elbgold is one of the best places for a coffee in Hamburg. They roast their own coffee and can turn it into just about anything: espresso, macchiato, flat white, cafe latte, cortado, mocca, frappe, hot chocolate, chai latte, teas… to fresh squeezed orange juice, rhubarb, or lime-ginger spritzers or even alcoholic drinks (okay, some of these don’t need beans). Milk (normal, lactose-free or 50% fat) is from local dairies, but they also offer soy. Along with that you can enjoy a homemade sweet pastry: banana bread, cheesecake, apple pie, cookies, croissants… vegan and gluten free options available!
There’s fresh fruit with yogurt and granola or if you want a savory bite they have selections of breads and bagels with cold cuts. For example ciabatta, whole grain rolls, and bagels, with cheese, tomato, arugula etc. My favorite though, is the toasted everything bagel with cream cheese and lox!
The café itself (in the Schanze) is large with many different seating possibilities; cozy soft chairs for kicking back, a big wooden bar table with high stools, tables with benches or chairs… The service is very attentive. They serve you at your seat and food and drinks come very fast. But there’s nothing speaking against going up to the counter yourself to order from there too. Many people come there in the morning to work on their laptop, chat with friends, or grab some breakfast with their toddlers before dropping them at the daycare next door. If you want to accelerate global warming, you can drive cause they have a parking lot 🙂 I tagged this café as Bobo, because it is somewhat bourgeois (they have a parking lot!), but it’s in the Schanze – that just proves that it has to be somewhat bohemian too ;)…
